Coach Meets

The monthly coach meets are the mainstay of the clubs activity. These occur roughly on the 3rd Sunday of each month and primarily visit the Lake District with two or three trips a year venturing elsewhere including the Yorkshire Dales, North Wales, Derbyshire and the Scottish Borders. Full details can be found on our events page.

The coach meets are usually new members' first experience with the club so this page tells you all you need to know about these events, including pick-up points, coach times and what to bring.

What to Bring

We suggest that you bring equipment suited to the terrain and length of route planned and the relevant weather conditions.  Remember that the weather and underfoot conditions can change significantly without warning or with increased altitude.

As a bare minimum we would suggest the following:
  • Walking Boots.
  • Cagoule or similar jacket.
  • Waterproof over trousers.
  • Warm sweater / fleece.
  • Rucksack (a day sack of about 30L should suffice).
  • Drinks, sandwiches etc (for lunch and for tea).
  • Hat and gloves.
  • Map and compass.
  • Whistle, first aid kit, torch and survival bag.
  • Change of clothing and footwear for when you get back to the coach.
  • In winter we also recommend you bring additional warm clothing and a hot drink. Depending on your route you will also require ice axe and crampons and be conversant with their use.
